Christopher Hash, Analyst II, Right of Way, Southwest Gas Corporation & Great Basin Gas Transmission Company

From field operations to Right of Way leadership, Christopher Hash’s journey reflects dedication, growth, and a deep commitment to the communities he serves. Since joining Southwest Gas in 2018, Christopher has built a well-rounded career that uniquely positions him to support projects across Northern Nevada and Northern California.

From Operations to Analyst

Christopher began his career with Southwest Gas in 2018 as an Operations Contractor while earning his bachelor’s degree at Western Nevada College. After graduating in 2020, he stepped into an Engineering Technician role, where he designed engineering projects and supported the Spring Creek Natural Gas Expansion.

In April 2024, he officially became a Right of Way Analyst. But his interest in land rights began long before that.

“During my time in Operations and Engineering, I worked closely with our former Right of Way Analyst. She taught me how to review plat maps and research the information needed to procure permits. I was fascinated by the opportunity to look at maps that were sometimes hundreds of years old and uncover the history behind them.”

Later, as a District Technician, Christopher gained valuable field experience, responding to gas emergencies, installing pipelines, and building meters. When the Right of Way Analyst position opened, he knew it was the next step.

“I had developed a deep appreciation for how critical that role was to the success of the projects I supported. I was excited to bring my own experience and perspective into the position.”

A Day in the Life

As an Analyst II, Christopher supports multiple projects across Northern California and Nevada. His work focuses on confirming existing land rights and securing new ones for business development and system expansion.

A typical day includes:

  • Researching property records

  • Reviewing plats and construction drawings

  • Coordinating with Legal, Engineering, and Operations teams

  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements

His role requires both technical precision and strong communication skills.

“I’ve learned how critical land rights are to the safe and efficient operation of natural gas facilities,” he explains. “Clear communication is essential when explaining complex issues. This role has strengthened my adaptability, sharpened my attention to detail, and deepened my appreciation for how my work supports energy delivery across Northern Nevada.”

A Project Close to Home

Christopher’s proudest professional accomplishment is the Spring Creek natural gas expansion project in Spring Creek, Nevada.

He relocated to the community and helped design the main installation that now serves his former neighborhood. His work included researching land rights, ensuring compliance with BLM jurisdictional boundaries, and balancing technical requirements with community needs.

Later, as a District Technician, he facilitated the conversion of his own home from propane to natural gas.

“Preparing my home for county inspections and safely converting appliances using the knowledge I gained in the field was a defining achievement,” he says. “It’s incredibly rewarding to know that my work continues to benefit the community, and that it directly improved the safety and quality of life for my family and neighbors.”

The Wildest Moment on the Job

Not all memorable moments come from major projects.

“The wildest thing I’ve experienced was working during the invasion of Mormon crickets in Elko County,” Christopher laughs. “Trying to build a meter with crickets crawling everywhere was definitely an undertaking. With every step I took, hundreds scattered in all directions. It was one of those moments that gave me the heebie jeebies and is something I’ll never forget.”
